  • Why Meditation? (by Aaron Abke)

    • I love looking at Meditation like a race car driver preparing for the race track. Life is a lot like a difficult race track, with twists and turns, obstacles to avoid and big leaps to make. It would make no sense for someone who can hardly even drive a high performance race car yet to attempt to tackle this track. The driver should practice just going around on a simple oval track for quite some time, until the basics of driving at a high level are mastered.

    • Living a human lifetime to its fullest potential is just like a driver preparing for a difficult race track. To live life in the fast lane of spiritual growth requires much inner discipline and self-mastery. Life regularly throws us curveballs, challenges us with obstacles and tests our limits, so if we cannot even sit silently in meditation for a few minutes, what reason do we have to believe we can meet our challenging life circumstances with any level of mindfulness? No, we should not make the mistake of the hasty race car driver who takes to the race track before he is truly ready for it.

    • Meditation is that training we need. It is the most important "Indirect practice" we teach in the 4DU Curriculum. We must spend time sitting in stillness each and every day, and take our mind through various challenges, concentration tests, and focusing practices, to prepare us to meet the rough and perilous terrain of our daily life experiences with true mindfulness and self-mastery. If we can sit in serene silence for some extended period of time, fully relaxing our mind into the stillness of the now, we will also begin naturally bringing this stillness to every circumstance we meet.

    • The other important reason for practicing meditation is the embodiment piece. Meditation is a tool for embodiment, which is why it ranks so high on our list of beneficial spiritual practices. The more inner stillness we cultivate, the more awareness we bring to our mind activity. This awareness translates immediately to greater spiritual virtues, like patience, compassion and humility. If we cannot discipline our own mind to be at least relatively still most of the time, how can we ever hope to embody such lofty qualities such as universal love and forgiveness? A noisy mind cannot embody these traits. Meditation holds the key to opening the doorway for true embodiment to take place.

    • As far as why the brainwave training is so beneficial, brainwave training in meditation helps you learn how to sense what brainwave state you are in, and how to change your brainwave state at will, which is extremely useful for navigating through life's challenges. Mastering our brainwaves takes us one step closer to true self-mastery, because when we know what it "feels like" to be in each distinct brainwave state, and we have practiced entering these different states at will in meditation, we can then begin utilizing this skill whenever we need it. The more times you visit a place, the more familiar you become with it, and the less help you need to know how to get there. This is what we are doing in Meditation Mastery. We give the student a full week in each brainwave state, with 7 different meditations for each brainwave, so that the student gets plenty of practice reps for entering each one. Meditation Mastery gives the student countless invaluable meditation tools, tips and techniques for rapid progress through the "beginner" stage of meditation, and propels the student toward becoming an advanced meditator in just 8 weeks. The training is intensive, but if the student applies themself wholeheartedly to each daily meditation and the practices given, they will experience significant progress from this course.

  • Do I need any prior meditation experience?

    • No, but it’s highly recommended. This is a 56-day commitment with daily meditation and journaling—around 30-70 minutes per day. Starting at 30 and moving its way up to 70 minutes. While the path is clear and guided, it does require discipline.

    • If you’ve never meditated before, you’ll need at least the willingness and willpower to show up every day—like a beginner at the gym willing to build consistency. If you struggle with following through on commitments, this may not be the right time for you.

  • How much time will I need each day?

    • You’ll want to carve out 30 to 70 minutes daily. Think of it like gym time for your soul—not passive content, but active inner transformation.

    • 🕒 In the early weeks, you’ll start with 30-minute meditations.

    • 📈 As your capacity grows, so does the depth—eventually building to 60-minute sessions, with a 10-minute post-meditation journal to lock in the insights.

    • If you can commit to brushing your teeth daily, you can train your consciousness daily.

    • And by the end of 8 weeks, you’ll have a new habit and a new baseline of being.

  • What happens if I miss a day?

    • Life happens—and that’s okay. Just pick up where you left off.

    • While consistency absolutely fuels faster progress, Meditation Mastery is self-paced with lifetime access. There’s no such thing as “falling behind.” The only thing that matters is choosing to return.

    • In fact, many students choose to stay in a particular week’s training for longer—sometimes even months. That’s entirely up to you.

    • However, for your first time through, we strongly recommend following the 56-day flow.

    • Daily meditation time starts at around 30 minutes and gradually increases to 60 minutes

    • We also encourage an additional 10–20 minutes each day for Meditation Journaling, as recommended by Aaron Abke

    • That brings your total time commitment to approximately 40 to 80 minutes per day

    • Which equals roughly 5 to 9 hours per week.
